ABOUT OUR SERVICES
Septic Tank Installation and Repair
A new septic installation is one of the most significant investments a property can require. At Durango Septic, we handle the entire process from permitting assistance to full system installation to inspections, backfill, and final grade. There is no need to coordinate between contractors or figure out county requirements on your own.
On the repair side, we diagnose before we recommend. A clogged line, a failing lift station, a cracked cast iron pipe are all problems that have specific causes. We use camera scoping and hands-on assessment to get to the root of it, then tell you exactly what needs to happen and why.

signs You need a New Septic Tank
A septic system that needs repair rarely fails without warning. The signs show up gradually, and most homeowners notice something is off long before they pick up the phone. The problem is that the longer you wait, the more expensive the answer gets. A repair that costs a few hundred dollars today can turn into a full system replacement if the right things get ignored long enough.
Sewage backing up into the house or pooling in the yard
Persistent odors near the tank, drain field, or inside the home
Slow drains that don't respond to standard plumbing fixes
Gurgling or bubbling sounds from multiple fixtures
Visible cracks, settlement, or damage around the tank area
A system that's more than 20 to 25 years old with no recent inspection
New construction or property purchase with no existing system

FAQ's

Most residential installations take between two and five days depending on site conditions, permit timelines, and system size. We'll give you a realistic timeline during the assessment — not a best-case estimate.
-
Yes. Navigating La Plata County and Archuleta County permitting requirements is part of what we do. We help you get the right permits in place before any work starts so there are no surprises at inspection.
-
It depends on what's failing and how far gone it is. A cracked pipe or a failed lift station pump is a repair. A collapsed tank or a saturated drain field that can't be rehabilitated is a replacement. We diagnose first and give you an honest answer about which one you're actually looking at.
If. you aren’t sure what you need, call us. That's exactly what we're here to figure out. We'd rather spend 20 minutes on the phone helping you understand your options than have you make a costly decision based on incomplete information.

Septic installation costs vary more than most people expect, and anyone who gives you a firm number without seeing your property first is guessing. The real variables are soil conditions, system size, site access, and local permitting requirements. In Southwest Colorado, a straightforward residential installation on a cooperative site will typically run anywhere from $8,000 to $15,000. More complex jobs that require steep terrain, poor soil drainage, larger systems, or properties requiring engineered designs, can run higher. The only way to give you an accurate number is to assess your specific site. Call us and we'll tell you what you're actually looking at.

A 1,000 gallon tank is generally sized for a two to three bedroom home with average water usage. Colorado and most county guidelines use bedroom count as the baseline for sizing because it's a reasonable proxy for the number of people — and therefore the amount of daily wastewater — a system needs to handle. That said, bedroom count isn't the whole story. A household with heavy water use, a garbage disposal running into the system, or more occupants than the bedroom count suggests may put more load on a 1,000 gallon tank than it was designed for. If you're building new or replacing a system, we'll help you size it correctly for how the property is used.
