ABOUT OUR SERVICES
Septic Tank Riser Installation
A septic riser is a vertical pipe extension that connects your buried tank lid to ground level. It sounds simple, and it is, but the difference it makes is significant. Without a riser, every pump-out or inspection requires locating the tank, digging down to the lid, doing the work, and backfilling. With a riser, the lid is right there at the surface. The job takes less time, costs less per visit, and puts less disturbance on your yard every few years.

Why CHOOSE Durango Septic
We built this Service.
We take it personally.
Current La Plata County and Archuleta County requirements call for watertight risers and lids on tank and distribution box openings. If your system doesn't have them yet, Durango Septic can install them during a service call or as a standalone job. We use quality, properly sealed components without cheap plastic lids that warp, crack, or let groundwater in. A riser installed right is a one-time fix that pays for itself quickly!
“Phil and Sarah were here 10 minutes after contact. Very quick, pleasant, and helpful. Advised us to make a couple quick improvements to the system while we had the line dug up to replace. Thank you so much!”

FAQ's

Most modern risers are made from high-density polyethylene or PVC. They're lightweight, durable, and designed to create a watertight seal between the surface lid and your tank opening. We use components that meet current county specifications for both La Plata and Archuleta countie
-
No. Installation is a straightforward process. We expose the existing tank opening, fit the riser section, and seal it properly. It doesn't require modifying your tank itself.
-
For a standard single-access residential tank, plan for a couple of hours. If your tank is deep or you're adding risers to both the tank and distribution box, it may take a bit longer. We'll give you an accurate time estimate when we assess the job.
-
Current county requirements apply to both your tank and distribution box openings. If you're bringing your system into compliance or just making future access easier, it makes sense to do both at the same time.
-
County requirements vary, but La Plata County and Archuleta County both require watertight risers and lids as part of current septic standards. If you're preparing for a Transfer of Title inspection or a continued use permit, having compliant access points in place matte

Riser installation at Durango Septic starts at $150 plus the installation fee, with final pricing depending on the depth of your tank and how many access points need to be fitted. A tank that's buried deeper requires a taller riser section, which affects both material and labor costs. If you're adding risers to both the tank and the distribution box at the same time, which we generally recommend since the equipment is already on site, we can give you a combined quote. Call us with what you know about your system and we'll put together an accurate number.

Technically yes, but there are a few things worth knowing before you go that route. The riser needs to create a fully watertight seal with the tank opening — a poor seal lets groundwater in, which throws off your tank's balance and can accelerate the need for pumping. Getting the fit right requires the correct riser diameter for your specific tank, proper adhesive or gasket sealing, and in some cases cutting the existing concrete lid. Current La Plata and Archuleta county requirements also specify that risers and lids meet watertight standards, so if you're doing this ahead of a Transfer of Title inspection, the installation needs to hold up to scrutiny. It's not the most complex job in the world, but it's one of those things where doing it wrong costs more to fix than doing it right the first time. We're happy to handle it and make sure it's done to county spec.
